Oppenheim Wine Walk

#
Note: This event has already passed.

Participate in a storied German tradition in a historic city!

Join Baumholder Outdoor Recreation for a taste of Rhine Valley wine, some good food, and a leisurely stroll around town with friends. The traditional Oppenheim Wine Walks include 9 sampling stations each presenting an opportunity for guests to sample a new wine. Tasting stations are located throughout the venue and guests are able to gingerly stroll from stop to stop while socializing. Over the course of several hours, visitors can enjoy live music and take their time perusing the several vendor booths, as well as sampling the vineyard’s bestselling varietal, all paired with savory selections and genuine wine collectibles.

While you are there, you can also visit the Oppenheimer Kellerlabyrinth (Oppenheim Cellar Maze) under the Old Town, sometimes also called "die Stadt under der Stadt" (the City beneath the City). Spurred by the city's uneasy past and the soft yet sustainable soil, Oppenheim's medieval inhabitants dug at least 40 km worth of tunnels and rooms beneath the "visible" city. Among other things, the St Catherine's Church's stained-glass windows survived here not only several medieval wars but also WWII bombings. A section of the tunnels has been made accessible to the public. Guided tours (in several languages) are offered by the town’s tourism and festival play bureau (Merianstr. 4, near the marketplace at the street leading up to St Catherine's).
